Lai lai lai lai lai- lai
Lai lai is very in Lao, and Lao is very… Very great, very sweet, very delicious, very beautiful… The internet connections are not great, so it’s been 3 weeks since I got around here and I have not gotten around to post anything, but to make it short, since Sapa, we’ve flown from Hanoi to Luang Prabang, the old capital of Laos and the heart of the tourism trail. We were exhausted and groggy and we spent 5 days there doing not much, enjoying it tremendously. We ate a pineapple and a papaya salad a day, tried the local food markets, even food that was not piping hot or coming out of a fridge, visited wats, met young Novices dressed in bright safran robes and studying to become monks while taking English and computer classes, and did i mention I got to bathe with an Elephant? We did a two days Mahout experience and we each rode on an elephant. On the second day, my bare feet tucked behind flaper’s ears and my knees sqeezing his neck we headed to the river and I scrubbed away the mass of mud flaper had amassed on his bristly head. He was way dirtier than flappy, Ken’s elephant, but I liked him best. While there we met great Aussies that are preparing for the pending economic doom and it made for intersting talks while bathing in the local waterfall. Very interesting.
